Standing Alone Among Others

Posted by Helen Hoefele in Purpose

Who cares the most about your purpose?  Well, it should be you.

Like your health, your finances, and your relationships, you need to care the most about your own fitness in these areas.

When it comes to deciding what your life’s purpose is, only you can decide.  Others can make suggestions or give advice on how and what you should expend your efforts on, but in the end you control your own happiness.

Yet it may not always seem so simple to just do whatever you want.  There is no doubt that our lives are intertwined with others. We impact, influence, and affect others and are impacted, influenced, and affected by others.

But, if we take a step back away from all those outside influences, when we are alone, and look at our reflection in the mirror, we need to be happy with what we see.

To me, finding my purpose is about becoming aware of what sparks my interest, what lights a fire within me, and then finding a way to make time to live that.

Being angry, frustrated, resentful, or jealous isn’t going to make any situation better, so why dwell on those emotions (no matter how justified they may seem at the time.)

I would suggest that once you start discovering what makes you happy, you should start looking for areas where you can start experiencing and sharing those passions. It might be at work, at home, or somewhere else. It does not need to be in big ways.  And, it does not need to be an all or nothing game.  Baby steps are fine as you test out the waters.

Keep in mind that the journey you are on might not be a straight clear path.  You might need to be a bit creative in how and where you pursue your passions.  And, you definitely need to be realistic in your aspirations.  But, I’d say that embarking on the journey is well worth it.

So, let me know, is this helpful or are these the same old suggestions you’ve heard before?  Is there anything that you disagree with?  I’d love to hear about your experience with this.
