Figmentations

When people are looking for their purpose, what are they actually looking for?  How do they know when they’ve found it?  Is their purpose something big or small?  Is it one thing or many things?  Is it work-related, family-related, or something else?  Is it a feeling or an accomplishment or both?

Here are 10 feelings that can be associated with living a life of purpose:

1. Make a difference or a contribution to something
2. Leave the world a better place than when you entered it
3. Be remembered for something said or done
4. Leave a mark (can be positive or negative)
5. Follow/Answer your calling
6. Know what you were put on this earth to accomplish (spiritual)
7. Sense of meaning (that our lives and what we do matter)
8. Live a life without regrets
9. Live with passion
10. Help others

Here are 12 accomplishments that provide some people with that sense of satisfaction or validation: 

1. Make a big donation or dedication or memorial
2. Write the classic novel or a movie or create a work of art, or music
3. Be rich and famous
4. Be recognized for something (celebrity)
5. Invent something
6. Raise a family
7. Cure a disease
8. Be in the history books
9. Win an big Award (Pulitzer Prize, Grammy, Emmy, etc.)
10. Build something (Bridge, Skyscraper, Amusement Park, etc,)
11. Be the best at something (Olympics, Guiness Book of World Records, Super Bowl etc., )
12. Make or change a law (Declaration of Independence, Megan’s Law)

What are other accomplishments or activities that make people feel like they’ve achieved their purpose?  

Purpose is often more than just a one time accomplishment.  It’s a lifestyle, a way of being, often measured by happiness and satisfaction with one’s self.
