Blog Day 2008

Today is Blog Day 2008.  Today, bloggers are being encouraged to get to know other bloggers by posting five new blogs to share.  The five I’ll be listing might not all be considered “new” per se, but I chose these because each represents an authentic voice, that updates regularly, and honestly contributes to the conversation (without trying to make a quick buck like some internet marketers often do.)  I haven’t met any of these five people personally, but from what I have read, I can vouch that these are all people that I would do business with and are people that you can truly trust!  Enjoy!

1.  ChrisBrogan.com.  In my opinion, Chris is one of the best social media bloggers around.   Chris posts regularly, contributes to the conversation, and shares a ton of interesting information about social media and beyond. Chris is also active on Twitter.

2.  MaxGladwell.com.  This blog is focused on ”Social Media and Green Living” and Max Gladwell is also active on Twitter.

3.  Jim Kukral.com.  Jim is a creative, authentic, and inspirational video blogger and marketer.  I especially enjoy Jim’s “The Daily Flip” video posts.  Jim is on Twitter, too.

4.  Mom Goes Green.  This is a quality blog that might be a little less know.  It is written by Jim Kukral’s (above) wife and goes by the  tagline of: “A Mom’s Journey to Green Living”.  You don’t need to be perfect to be sincere.  This Mom is on Twitter as well.

5.  Jonathan Fields: Awake at the Wheel.  Jonathan blogs about health & fitness, life, marketing, social media and entrepreneurship.  He is another authentic voice and is also on Twitter.

Hope you have a great Blog Day 2008, too!

Regarding Barack Obama’s nomination speech at the DNC ‘08, was it focused on too many unfulfillable promises and unrealizable dreams? Some would say so.  Did it consist of just more talk that we’ve already heard before?  Or, did we witness a message that was something more than just words spoken by a charismatic eloquent speaker?

Even Barack Obama himself mentioned that some would consider it just “happy talk”.

To me the message was sincere, unifying and about how true change can happen.  It was about what policies he hopes to pursue.  The journey ahead will no doubt be difficult no matter who wins this election.  To me it helps to know where we’d like to be going.  In these uncertain times, I think Obama gave the best vision possible…about a unifying direction that we want and need to strive towards.

The Democratic role of government was clarified as not being about guarantees or entitlements but about personal responsibility along with looking out for others; described as follows:

  • The purpose of government is to
    • “do for us what we can not do for ourselves.”
    • “insure opportunity for every American willing to work”
  • We are responsible for ourselves and we are our brothers’ keeper
  • We must do our part
  • It’s about “individual responsibility and mutual responsibility.”

While I might not be prone to having blind faith in “an experienced pilot”, I am also not prone to “throwing the baby out with the bath-water.”  In other words, I’m finding that just because you don’t agree with everything when you first learn something, that doesn’t mean you have to disregard everything about it either.

I bring this up in the context of what I’ve been learning about the role the subconscious mind plays for us in combination with the functioning of our conscious (thinking) mind.   As is taught through SRI Coaching, it is important to develop rapport between the conscious and the subconscious mind since each serves a purpose.

Clearly, the concept of a conscious mind is easier to grasp than that of a subconscious or unconscious mind.  The unconscious mind is said to be where memories, emotions, and perceptions exist, as well as where energy is stored and from where our bodily functions are run.

Just wanted to share this Non-Profit’s inspiring mission:

WorldChanging.com works from a simple premise: that the tools, models and ideas for building a better future lie all around us. That plenty of people are working on tools for change, but the fields in which they work remain unconnected. That the motive, means and opportunity for profound positive change are already present. That another world is not just possible, it’s here. We only need to put the pieces together.

Follow WorldChanging.org on Facebook.

Check out a post they wrote regarding the potential for using Coca-Cola’s distribution network to deliver medicines in Africa, i.e., an idea hoping to get some viral nudging via a Facebook Group focused on that outcome .

I just got back from re-taking a great NLP (Strategist) training course with SRICoaching.  The key foundational principles of this training started off simply with ”Presuppositions of NLP” and “Prime Directives of the Unconscious Mind”.

Additionally, I recently came across another interesting body of work from ”The Foundation and Center for Critical Thinking” at CriticalThinking.org

In the NLP Strategist course that I took, I observed how some students, myself included, can have a difficult time fully associating with the Unconscious Mind work even though they intellectually grasp the concept.  One big learning I had is that even though some concepts in any learning environment might, for whatever reason, not be fully accepted at first, it’s important to reserve judgement and not ”throw the baby out with the bathwater.”  Thus, I am looking further into the aspects that particularly intrigue me…

What’s a “Sing-Along Blog”, you ask?  Well, if you love musicals, like I do, then you should enjoy this Three Act piece.  I think it runs about 45 minutes.  It’s not the most conventional style, but stick with it, you won’t be dissapointed.  It’s got action and superheros, a love story and a tragedy.   It shows that good and evil aren’t simply black and white. A clever script. Great singing and great songs.  Enjoy “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog“ available now free with only limited commercial interruption (or get the season pass and download from iTune’s).
