See the movie trailer to “Who Killed the Electric Car?” In this trailer they have Ed Begley Jr saying the following:

The electric vehicle is not for everybody.

It can only meet the needs of 90% of the population.

Enough said. :)

For anyone that wants to learn more about Social Marketing, a good resource is: Nedra Kline Weinreich. More info about her and her work can be found at the following:

She is presenting a two-day conference in September (18th-19th) at Social Marketing University - UCLA Conference Center at the University of California, Los Angeles (Westwood, California). You can find out more about the event by checking out the Social Marketing University information page at: http://www.squidoo.com/smu.

If it’s not in your budget to attend in person, it might be worthwhile to purchase Nedra’s book: Hands-On Social Marketing : A Step-by-Step Guide.

A blurb about the event follows:

How do you help people adopt behaviors that will make them healthier and better off? How can you create positive social change? At Social Marketing University, you will move beyond the usual educational approach to changing health and social behaviors. Using social marketing, you will learn how to persuade individuals to take action for change by addressing the values, needs and desires that motivate them. It’s about understanding and connecting with your audience by applying the same effective marketing tools that companies like Nike and Apple use.

Talk about missing the boat on search engine optimization…..

Wendy’s has this really funny commercial with the soquid (solid/liquid) Frosty that can only be eaten with a fpoon (fork/spoon), and this ad isn’t even prominently posted on their site. Don’t get me wrong, Wendy’s does have a pretty cool Flash site with other ads, just not this one.

When I do a Google search on soquid and pfoon, not much comes up. Maybe I’m spelling those non-words wrong, but I thought something more than one Myspace link would show up. Ask.com brings me to Wendy’s Frosty page, but as of this writing, the soquid part (i.e., the funny part) is bearly visible (see lower left.)

Check out this recent Advertising Age article showing other big businesses that missed the boat on search engine optimization opportunities. (Note: for archived link to this article click here.)
