According to today’s GMA Smartbrief, the CDC is spending a lot of money to fight childhood obesity. See blurb below…..
The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention is aiming to fight childhood obesity with a $59.9 million marketing campaign that features TV spots and a Web site as well as the planned distribution of 300,000 yellow balls. The campaign, called Verb Yellowball, is centered around the tagline, “Verb. It’s what you do,” and is organized on the Web site Verbnow.com. Adweek (10/24)
I went to verbnow.com and it seems to be almost entirely based on computer games…definitely some cool graphics and video clips…even has a character you can create which gets energized based on how much activity you do and record to that character. Nice concept, but I don’t see this site leading to kids being more active…reading about activity and thinking about activity is not the same as doing the activity. I hope I’m wrong though. I’ve seen some of the tv commercials and think the tagline is effective. Not that I have a better suggestion for a web site either….
